Jula has a BA in English Literature and a minor in African Languages and Literature from Boston University. While at Boston University, she received two Foreign Language and Area Studies awards from the U.S. Department of Education for her dedicated study of the Wolof language. Jula’s professional background includes roles at the U.S. National Governors Association as well as the Refugee Council in London, where she connected refugees and asylum seekers to essential housing and professional development services. Jula grew up in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Bangladesh, and has studied in the United Kingdom and Senegal. She now lives in Washington, D.C. At EFI, Jula researches the intersections of culture, education, consumption and sustainability.
