William R. Godfrey

Bill Godfrey’s expertise is in conceptual design and project integration. Trained in the liberal arts, architecture and environmental science, with experience in North America, the Middle East, the Pacific Basin, Pacific Rim, Africa and the Caribbean, he has focused EFI on the challenge of developing a process that brings together social, economic and environmental interests to tackle challenges that threaten their collective sustainability.

Mr. Godfrey was the lead designer of Sustainable Societies in Africa developed in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme to mainstream environment and sustainability understanding and build the capacity of African universities and their students to address the continent’s Millennium Development Goals. He has developed sustainability education for the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, and is currently working on the design of trans-disciplinary sustainability education for Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Godfrey has presented and conducted workshops at colleges and universities, national and international conferences and summits to such varied audiences as the National Universities Commission of Nigeria and the World Bank.

Mr. Godfrey’s experience leveraging innovative thinking, bringing diverse stakeholders together and developing implementable solutions have won commendations from the United Nations Economic, Social and Cultural Organization, the African Association of Universities, the South African Development Commission, the United Nations University and Global Virtual University. His physical designs projects ranging from coastal lagoons to new cities in China and Saudi Arabia have won awards for planning, programming, architecture and engineering from the American Institute of Architects, American Civil Engineers Council, United States General Services Administration and Department of Defense.
