William R. Godfrey
Mr. Godfrey is President of the Environic Foundation International (EFI), a non-profit research and education foundation begun in 1970. His personal expertise is in the fields of sustainable design and sustainability education.
Since 2005, he has spearheaded development of Sustainable SocietiesSM – a unique process that combines building understanding of social, economic and environmental needs with development of personal skills to effectively address them.
For his work in developing a process that engages stakeholders from all social, economic and environmental sectors, Mr. Godfrey received the MESA Award from the UN Environment Programme, the UN Economic, Social and Cultural Organization, the African Association of Universities, the South African Development Commission and the Global Virtual University. Since 2007, Sustainable SocietiesSM has been used successfully in the United States and Africa in undergraduate and graduate education as well as post-graduate business education.
Mr. Godfrey is currently adjunct faculty at the Center for Environmental Studies and the Center for Corporate Education at Virginia Commonwealth University, Vice Chair of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, a member of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development Education Caucus and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Industry and Manufacture.
Prior to EFI, Mr. Godfrey honed sustainable design and planning concepts as lead architect for development projects in North America, the Middle East, Pacific Rim and Pacific Basin, earning awards for innovation and design in programming, planning, architecture and engineering.
He holds degrees in government, architecture and environmental science from the University of Notre Dame where he was twice selected as Notre Dame's Luce Scholar nominee.
