Narelle R. Townsend

Narelle Townsend is Chair of the Non-Governmental Organizations Committee on Human Settlements and is currently working on the socio-economic survey on housing and urban conditions in Central American States. She is an architect and development planner involved with international development research, training and information exchange. She has been responsible for many studies and reports on habitat issues for the United Nations and other international conferences and represents the Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC) at UN Headquarters in New York. CHEC’s global project focus is the impact of humans’ built environment on the natural environment.

Prior to her eighteen years’ service with the UN in New York, Nairobi and Bangkok, she worked with architecture and planning firms in Sydney, London and New York. Ms. Townsend also holds advanced degrees in Architecture and International Affairs.
